About Me

My name is Jen Shore, and I’m a third-year student at St. Andrew's in Edinburgh. I’m studying archaeology, with an emphasis on feminism. I am particularly interested in ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern records of women in positions of leadership.

What I’m really keen on exploring through this semester’s work is women in ancient Persia. You know that Bible story about Queen Esther? Well, ever since I heard it for the first time a few years ago in religion class in sixth form, I’ve been intrigued by Esther. Of course, she’s probably not a real figure, but the fact that legends such as hers were circulating in the ancient near eastern world is a very promising sign for my research. I can’t wait to update you on what I find!
